From July 16, 2022, all Internet businesses must translate their content into Ukrainian

From July 16, 2022 comes into force Art. 27 of the Law of Ukraine “On Ensuring the Functioning of the Ukrainian Language as the State Language”, according to which all computer programs and websites that are used and implemented in Ukraine must have a user interface in the state language, in particular, the language of visual design of a computer program, the language of interaction, dialogues and transactions between the user and a computer program.
This applies to everyone without exception: computer programs installed on goods sold in Ukraine; computer programs of public authorities, local governments, enterprises, institutions and organizations of state and municipal forms of ownership; computer programs of educational institutions of state and municipal forms of ownership; Internet representations (including websites, web pages in social networks) of state authorities, local governments, enterprises, institutions and organizations of state and municipal forms of ownership, mass media registered in Ukraine, as well as business entities, who sell goods and services in Ukraine and registered in Ukraine; mobile applications of public authorities, local governments, mass media registered in Ukraine, as well as business entities selling goods and services in Ukraine.
For foreign business entities selling goods and services in Ukraine and having subsidiaries, branches, representative offices in Ukraine, the version of the website in the state language should contain sufficient information in terms of volume and content for clear navigation and disclosure of the purpose of the activity of the owner of such an Internet representation. The version of such a website in the state language for users in Ukraine should be loaded by default.
Therefore, any site, online application or profile in a social network, regardless of whether it belongs to a government agency, or an online store, a company, or an individual entrepreneur, must have an interface in the state language when loaded by default.
In case of non-compliance with the requirements of this Law, business entities may be brought to administrative responsibility by the Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language in accordance with the provisions of Art. 188-52 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of Ukraine in the form of a fine in the amount of UAH 3,400 to UAH 6,800 and for a repeated violation during the year in the form of a fine in the amount of UAH 8,500 to UAH 11,900.
